COMPETITION RULES (SPO 2019)

For the first time, Powerlifting Singapore will be introducing tertiary categories at the Singapore Powerlifting Open 2019, to help grow the pool of lifters from tertiary institution clubs. Clubs may send teams comprising of representative lifters from the following nationally accredited institutions:

Universities

  1. National University of Singapore (NUS)
  2. Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
  3. Singapore Management University (SMU)
  4. Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)
  5. Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT)
  6. Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS)
  7. Singapore Institute of Management (SIM)


Polytechnics

  1. Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP)
  2. Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP)
  3. Republic Polytechnic (RP)
  4. Singapore Polytechnic (SP)
  5. Temasek Polytechnic (TP)


Institutes of Technical Education (Combined)

  1. Note that there will be no split between ITE College Central, East and West

age range & categories


You must be between ages 17 and 25 years on 1 Jan of the year of the competition. 

The tertiary category is a free add-on to existing age and weight categories, and all competitors will not have to join a separate competition.

matriculation


You must be currently officially registered at one of the institutes listed on this page, or have completed your academic studies within 12 months preceding the event.

Your matriculation card or student card must be with you on the event day, for verification.

 

 

team scoring


Lifters in the same weight class will be ranked according to their totals, without distinction to their age categories. Team points will be awarded according to the following placings:

1st – 5.0 points
2nd – 4.5 points
3rd – 4.0 points
4th – 3.5 points

No points will be awarded if the lifter fails to make the weight class or achieve a valid total. Team awards shall be given to the best teams. In the event that there is a tie, the team with the number of higher placings will win.

IPF World University Cup 2019


All tertiary institution teams are eligible to be nominated for the IPF World University Powerlifting Cup in Tartu, Estonia this year, from 21 to 27 July 2019.

All athletes who wish to participate should email us before 30 April 2019. Note that all costs for participation in this international championship must be borne by the athlete, with or without institutional grants.
